All-new impressive electric Kia EV6 goes on sale

This week sees the arrival in Ireland of the eagerly awaited Kia EV6, its first dedicated electric vehicle. Kia tells us that there has been a healthy interest in the new car with over 200 units sold to Irish motorists, sight unseen.

Kia Ireland is initially offering its new EV in two trim levels; EV6 ‘Earth’ and EV6 ‘GT Line’, both rear-wheel-drive. The former comes with 19 inch wheels and has a full charge range of 528km, while the GT-line sits on 20 inch wheels with a range of around 506km.

Both models offer the long-range (77.4 kWh/) battery pack paired with a 168 kW (229ps) electric motor, and are also fitted with a heat pump.

The EV6 Earth (priced at €50,000 including the SEAI grant ) comes with a host of comfort, convenience and safety features as standard including the aforementioned 19 inch alloy wheels, dual 12.3 inch curved driver display screens, UVO Connect, charcoal grey vegan leather upholstery with premium relaxation seats, LED headlamps and smart power tailgate.

Key extra add-ons to the EV6 GT Line (€54,345, again including the SEAI grant ) include GT Line styling, 20 inch alloy wheels, suede/vegan leather seats (front ventilated), blind spot view monitors, AR heads-up display and a panoramic sunroof.

The automaker says that it’s partnership with part-owned Ionity will give EV6 customers access to over 400 high power charging stations across 24 European countries including six currently in Ireland. At Ionity charge points it takes just 18 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 per cent and less than 4.5 minutes for 100km. All EV6 buyers will receive a free 12 month Kia Power Package subscription that offers this Ionity fast charging service at just €0.29 (normally €0.79) per kWH.

“Interest in this car has been unprecedented,“ commented Kia Ireland’s Managing Director Ronan Flood. ”So much so that we have revised our forecasts (subject to availability) for next year. up to 750 units. We at Kia can confidently declare that EV6 is the embodiment of the vision we outlined in our brand re-launch earlier this year.

“Making the EV6 available to customers for dealer order at this stage in the car’s journey – shows the excitement, interest and passion that this forward-looking, state-of-the-art battery electric vehicle has already created.”

He added: “The huge buzz around the Kia EV6 is unlike any other model we have brought to market and it is proof that electric vehicles can be fun and are getting Irish motorists energised when it comes to considering sustainable mobility.”
