Geneva International Motor Show

The 83rd Geneva International Motor Show will be officially opened on March 7. It ranks among the “Top 5” international car exhibitions in the world and is Europe’s most important annual motor show. We will be there as usual to bring you all the news, writes Padraic Deane.

Some 700,000 visitors are expected to attend during the 11 days of the exhibition. Prior to this public opening more than 10,000 representatives of the media from all over the world will be there to discover the 130 premiers that will be presented by the world’s car manufacturers.

This Geneva show will have more than 130 World and European Premiers from the private car market sector. In addition to all the established names, new exhibitors include Qoros, a Chinese brand that has chosen Geneva to launch its products for Europe. McLaren will also present its range of sports cars based on its motor sports technologies.

Following the two days reserved for more than 10,000 media representatives (including our team from Automotive Publications) from all over the world, more than 700,000 visitors are expected, including more than 40 per cent from outside Switzerland, to discover the car of their dreams and to marvel at the latest technologies and designs.

Bringing together nearly 260 exhibitors within an area of 110,000 square metres, the Geneva International Motor Show caters for many interests.

For example in the last five years the technologies for more economical and alternative vehicles have evolved to the point where this year more than 10 per cent of the 900 vehicles in the exhibition emit less than 100 grams of CO2 per kilometre. The list of these vehicles is available in a special brochure that will be available to all visitors.

The sector of automobile accessories, parts, and equipment will occupy the total area of Hall 7 and constitutes the largest annual exhibition for this auto business segment in Switzerland.

The opening hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the week and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the weekends.  A number of special arrangements have been made with the Swiss railway company and the French TER Rhone-Alpes railways, as well as the Geneva Public Transport company (TPG), all of whom will be transporting visitors to the motor show. And a 50 per cent reduction will be available on entry tickets to the show that are purchased after 4 p.m.

You should be aware that Geneva is a very expensive city, from the cost of taxis fares to food and drink, and during the motor show, the price for hotel rooms sky rockets.
