Land Rover Ireland is searching for a young Irish rugby fan to lead out the national team at Rugby World Cup 2015. Land Rover, as a Worldwide Partner of Rugby World Cup 2015, is giving youngsters aged 7 to 13 the chance to win the momentous prize of becoming an official Mascot for Ireland at the Tournament.
As part of its ‘#WEDEALINREAL’ Rugby World Cup 2015 campaign, which will champion the people at the heart and soul of the game, Land Rover is turning to grassroots rugby to find Ireland’s biggest rugby fan. The lucky winner will lead the Irish team onto the pitch for their match against France on October 11th 2015 at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, Wales.
To be in with a chance of winning the coveted Rugby World Cup 2015 mascot place, entrants (aged between 7 and 13yrs old) must create a short video or photo demonstrating why they would make a great mascot and submit it to Land Rover Ireland’s social media channels along with the hashtags #WEDEALINREAL and #Ireland. This could include giving a passionate rendition of ‘Ireland’s Call’ the Irish Rugby team’s anthem, or offering some words of inspiration and advice to Ireland’s captain in advance of Rugby World Cup 2015. All mascot entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges, including Ireland Internationals Jamie Heaslip and Gordon D’Arcy.
Jamie Heaslip commented ,“Land Rover Ireland is providing a young passionate rugby fan with an amazing opportunity to be centre stage at a pivotal game at Rugby World Cup 2015; the biggest stage in world Rugby. There is no greater honour than walking out for your country, so for the lucky mascot who is selected it will be a momentous experience.”
Land Rover’s ‘#WEDEALINREAL’ campaign aims to put grassroots rugby on the global stage. As part of this campaign, Land Rover Ireland brought the historic Webb Ellis Cup to Old Belvedere RFC for a special coaching event for the club’s youth teams, with local rugby legends Gordon D’Arcy and Isa Nacewa.
Melanie McCourt, Jaguar Land Rover Ireland Marketing Manager, said, “As a Worldwide Partner of Rugby World Cup 2015, Land Rover is celebrating grassroots clubs and players who are at the heart of the game. We are delighted to offer this once in a lifetime opportunity to a lucky young rugby fan and we’re looking forward to seeing many great entries for this fantastic prize.”
There will be 96 Rugby World Cup 2015 mascots across the Tournament’s 48 matches, including a mascot from each participating nation. The closing date for the competition is 24th July 2015 and the winner will be announced on the 29th July 2015.
