The Volvo World Golf Challenge has enjoyed one of biggest and busiest years in its tournament history. In April this year, 71 golfers from almost 30 Volvo markets played including 2 players from Ireland qualified for the World Final which was played at the beautiful Tomson Shanghai Pudong Golf Club ‘the pearl of the east’, eager to compete for the World Champion crown. The finalists had the golfing experience of a lifetime which climaxed with the leading finishers taking part the World Champion crown greatest prize in amateur golf that connects Volvo’s client golf with its professional event, the Volvo China Open.

The details for next year’s tournament have yet to be announced but Volvo Car Ireland finalists have already been selected with our final culminating at Carton House in County Kildare on November 2nd 2015. This is the most exclusive and talked-about prize in club golf, and it has helped to make the Volvo World Golf Challenge the leading event in golf.

Adrian Yeates, Managing Director of Volvo Car Ireland knows just how positive the impression is, not just on those who make it to the final, but on all those competing throughout the year and following the finalists from back home. “There is no doubt that whilst the event works extremely well at a local level, those who make it to the World Final could not be more enthusiastic or better ambassadors for Volvo. The excitement of the whole trip is something truly special which cannot be matched anywhere else.”
Each Volvo market runs its own tournament, and in Ireland, Volvo Car Ireland teamed up with Golf Digest Ireland, the biggest selling golf magazine in Ireland.
Golf Digest held 31 Qualifiers including one 3 day tournament and one international event which was held at Iberostar Royal Andalus, Cádiz, Spain as well as other many prestigious golf courses around Ireland in which over 6100 golfers took part. The Golf Digest Volvo Grand Final took place at Carton House in County Kildare where 114 participants split between two competitions took part in what was a hotly contested tournament.
In the end there could be only two national winners who are Niall Ahern, who qualified at the Castlemartyr Resort event and Rachel Treanor who qualified at the Palmerstown House event.
Rachel scored an Impressive 43 points on the O’Meara course at Carton House.
The national winners are now getting ready to head to Wold Final next year in China.
Next year the qualifying competition for Ireland will be expanded to over 40 tournaments including 3 two day events, 2 three day events and 3 international events. The full list for the 2016 Qualifiers will be available on www.golfdigestevents.ie from December the 1st 2015.
