Plug-In Hybrid to join diesel in new Kia Sorento range

Kia tells us that it has begun to build the new Kia Sorento Hybrid in South Korea. However, the new fourth-generation Sorento Hybrid will not be sold here in the near future. Kia Ireland will offer the Hybrid PHEV instead along with the diesel variant of the SUV, all assembled on the same production line.

European sales of the fourth-generation Sorento are due to commence in the third quarter of 2020, and new Sorento Diesel will be available in Ireland in September.

Towards the end of this year, the new Sorento will also be available here in Ireland for the first time as a Plug-in Hybrid.

The latter is the first application of electrified power in Kia’s global flagship SUV, enabled by a new platform and intelligently packaged cabin and powertrain

The Sorento has been a mainstay of Kia’s global line-up for almost two decades – more than three million Sorento models have been sold worldwide since it was launched in 2002.
