Rare BMW M1 race car to feature at Classic live

Preparations are well underway for Ireland’s only Live Action! Classic Car and Motorcycle Show, Carole Nash Classic Live at Mondello Park on Sunday June 21.

The annual Mondello Park event is sponsored by market leading specialist insurance broker, Carole Nash, who will be present at the event to talk to Classic Vehicle enthusiasts about all of their insurance needs. Also present will be event media partners Irish Vintage Scene who as usual will display some of the cover cars which featured in their magazine over the past twelve months.

What makes Carole Nash Classic Live unique is the track action, and the highlight of this will be a demonstration run by the extremely rare BMW M1 Procar from the Mondello Park Motorsport Museum. This car was raced in the Formula One supporting Procar Championship in 1979 and 1980 by Hans Stuck. It subsequently raced in the German GT Championship and at Le Mans where it won its class in 1985 with Car owner Martin Birrane at the wheel.

The M1 will be on display in the paddock during the event and will be taken on track for some demonstration laps. The remaining cars from the Museum’s collection will be available to view on the day with the Museum open to show visitors free of charge.

Keeping the track busy for the rest of the day will be demonstration races for Historic Cars and Motorcycles. The Dunboyne Club will organise three races for Classic Motorcycles as well as putting some of the club members vehicles on display. The Historic Racing Car association will have a big field of cars for their reunion event and their members will be on track twice as well as displaying their cars in the Mondello Park Pit Lane. The more modern Future Classics, which have been providing some excellent racing at Mondello Park for the past few seasons will race once, as will the older Pre 1955 Race Cars.

While the track activity is the focus of the show for many visitors, there will be plenty to see off track too, as Classic Live brings together Ireland’s Classic Vehicles clubs and owners to display their cars and motorcycles. Alongside the vehicle displays there will be a trade area where exhibitors such as Carole Nash can be found along with the auto-jumble area.

Admission to the event will be €12.50 for adults with under 16’s admitted free, unless you arrive in a Classic BMW, in which case the driver of the car will be admitted free of charge.
