The Volvo World Golf Challenge has enjoyed its biggest and busiest year so far as this global tournament for Volvo’s customers of today and tomorrow continues to grow.
And as more new markets joined in during 2013, a record 74 golfers from almost 50 Volvo markets including 2 players from Ireland have qualified for the World Final that will be played at the beautiful Zimbali Golf Resort to the north of Durban in South Africa.
The finalists will have the golfing experience of a lifetime which climaxes with the leading finishers taking part in Playing With The Pros – the greatest prize in amateur golf that connects Volvo’s client golf with its professional event, the Volvo Golf Champions.

The World Final at Zimbali takes place in January in parallel with the first of Volvo’s three prestigious professional events on the European Tour, the Volvo Golf Champions.
Staged just down the road at the historic Durban Country Club, this exclusive championship actually joins forces with the amateur event on January 10th, when the leading 19 finishers from the World Final each team up with two of the stars of the European Tour in Playing With The Pros. This is the most exclusive and talked-about prize in club golf, and it has helped to make the Volvo World Golf Challenge the leading such event in golf.
With nations such as Argentina, Australia, Indonesia, Mexico, Norway and the USA all being represented for the first time in the World Final, there is much to celebrate. Adrian Yeates, Managing Director of Volvo Car Ireland knows just how positive the impression is, not just on those who make it to the final, but on all those competing throughout the year and following the finalists from back home. “There is no doubt that whilst the event works extremely well at a local level, those who make it to the World Final could not be more enthusiastic or better ambassadors for Volvo. The excitement of the whole trip but especially Playing With The Pros is something truly special which cannot be matched anywhere else.”

Each market runs its own tournament and in Ireland, Volvo Car Ireland teamed up with Golf Digest Ireland, the biggest selling golf magazine in Ireland.
Golf Digest held 13 Qualifiers at many prestigious golf courses around Ireland in which over 2500 golfers took part. The Golf Digest Volvo Grand Final took place at Carton House in County Kildare where 45 participants split between two competitions took part in what was a hotly contested tournament.
In the end there could be only two national winners who are Tom O Donoghue, Heritage Golf Club Killenard, Co. Laois and Seamus Lanagan, Glenlo Abbey Golf Club, Co. Galway.
The national winners are getting ready to head to Wold Final this weekend.
