Tesla has added more range to its extremely popular Model Y, with a new long range rear-wheel drive version of the SUV now on sale in Ireland from €48,021.
Replacing the existing rear-wheel drive variant, Tesla says its latest Model Y has an upgraded battery with a range of up to 600km (WLTP) – 100 kilometres more than previously.

Tesla claims the Model Y’s single motor, combined with an energy-dense battery pack, standard heat-pump and low resistance tyres maximise efficiency, setting a new benchmark for cost per kilometre for an electric SUV.
According to Tesla’s calculations, an owner charging at home with a standard electricity tariff of 50c per kWh and driving 10,000 km per year would spend €800 on charging, compared to €1,400 on an equivalent petrol vehicle and even more savings with an overnight EV tariff.
Built in Tesla’s Berlin-Brandenburg Gigafactory in Germany, the Model Y was the world’s best-selling car in 2023. This upgraded version hasn’t changed in terms of design, with a 15.4-inch central touchscreen, a 13-speaker sound system and adaptive cruise control remaining as standard. There’s a choice of 19-inch ‘Dark Gemini’ wheels, or 20-inch ‘Induction Wheels’, with the former helping produce a greater range.
Tesla has added a new heat pump as standard, which can remotely pre-heat or cool the cabin without draining too much range. The Model Y has a max supercharging speed of 250 kW, a top speed of around 217km/h and a 0-100km/h sprint time of 5.5 seconds.
The upgraded Tesla Model Y long range rear-wheel drive version is available for delivery now.
