Citroen has confirmed the return of the 2CV nameplate in the guise of an all-electric city car.
Set to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show this October, Citroen said the new 2CV will share the same affordability and lightweight design as the original.
Built between 1948 and 1990, more than 3.8 million examples of the 2CV were produced, with a number of right-hand drive units also built at the French manufacturer’s slough plant in England.
“The original 2CV was never created to become an icon. It became one because it gave people freedom,” said Citroen CEO, Xavier Chardon.
“The return of the 2 CV is not simply the return of a legendary name. It is the return of a bold and optimistic idea of progress,” he added.
