Kia has shared more details of its forthcoming EV5 SUV which, as the numbers suggest, will sit between the EV4 and the EV6 in the Korean brand’s electric vehicle offensive. Expected to arrive in Ireland at the end of 2025, the Kia EV5 will be the de facto electric version of the beloved Sportage with very similar dimensions and boot space.

While no Irish pricing or spec have yet been confirmed, Kia has said that the EV5 will be offered in three trim levels and will only be available with one battery option. The EV5’s 81.4kWh battery has a claimed range up to 530km on a single charge, while all variants support fast charging from 10-to-80 per cent in around half an hour using a 150kW DC charger.
Based on the E-GMP platform also used by Hyundai, the Kia EV5 offers a one-pedal driving ‘Smart Regeneration System’ to enhance energy efficiency and ride comfort. This electric SUV will also come with bi-directional charging, including Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) up to 3.6kW to power and charge external devices with an interior socket or an external adapter. The model is also equipped with Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) hardware, ready for operation once Ireland’s infrastructure allows.
The EV5 will sit on either 18- or 19-inch wheels depending on spec with 20-inch wheels reserved for the top of the range GT version. The baseline and GT-Line variants will both be front-wheel-drive, while the GT version will get all-wheel drive.
Inside, the EV5 is equipped with a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, and a 5.3-inch climate control display. Over-the-air (OTA) updates and fingerprint recognition will also feature with this car. Furthermore, the EV5 will have seven airbags, structural reinforcements, and the latest suite of Kia’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
