New Niro PHEV arrives in Ireland

Kia Ireland has announced pricing and spec details for the all-new Niro PHEV and Niro EV. The PHEV model is now on sale with prices starting from €38,500. The EV is expected in late August/early September with a K4 launch model priced at €45,715 (including Government Grants) .

Kia says its popular Niro crossover has been entirely redesigned from the ground up to meet the complex and diverse needs of today’s environmentally conscious car users.

Two state-of-the-art electrified powertrains, sustainable interior materials and exceptional safety performance combine to ensure the all-new version surpasses customer expectations, according to the brand. The redesigned Niro is an intrinsic model in Kia’s growing eco-friendly line-up, which will include 14 BEV models by 2027.

The all-new Niro comes with a choice of low and zero-emission powertrains: plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or battery electric (BEV). The PHEV models feature Kia’s super-efficient Smartstream 1.6-litre GDI gasoline engine. The battery electric Niro EV provides environmental and practical benefits with a 460km (WLTP pending homologation) electric-only range.

Ronan Flood, MD of Kia Ireland, said: “Kia has redesigned the Niro to provide people with a clearer path to clean mobility. The range of eco-friendly powertrains will encourage even the most hesitant customers to make the switch to more sustainable forms of movement.

“The already popular Niro benefits from Kia’s latest tech advancements and can meet the mobility needs of all drivers, attracting new people to the brand.

“The current Niro family is Kia’s third best-seller in Ireland, and the new version will further extend Niro’s position as a volume model within the Kia portfolio and help accelerate Kia Ireland’s sales of eco-friendly vehicles.”

The new Niro is 4,420mm long, 1,825mm wide, and up to 1,570 high. Its 2,720mm wheelbase and enhanced design proportions inside the cabin reward occupants with increased interior space and storage capacity.

For the PHEV versions, maximum braked towing capacity remains 1,300kg. The next generation Niro EV’s towing capacity is 750kg.

Here in Ireland, the brand will launch with two PHEV models ‘K3’ and ‘K4’. The former will go on the market at €38,500 and higher specced ‘K4’ at €41,500.

Standard equipment for the K3 includes 18” alloys, LED headlights with bi-function projection, heated front seats, a 10.25” touchscreen navigation, Kia Connect Telematics, wireless phone charger and Apple Car Play and Android Auto with voice control.

The new Niro is also packed with driving convenience and safety features including Lane Keep Assist, Lane Follow Assist, Smart Cruise Control, Blind-spot Collision Avoidance and dual-zone automatic air conditioning.

The ‘K4’ features in addition, shift by wire (rotary dial for drive, reverse and park), power adjustable front seats, heated rear seats ,driver heads-up display ,10.25” LCD driver display screen and power tailgate .

The initial Niro EV offer is ‘K4’ only (€45,715 inc. grants ) and mirrors much of the equipment found on the K4 PHEV. Of specific interest to EV buyers is the inclusion of a heat pump, battery heating /cooling system and Vehicle-to-Device (V2D) power supply.

According to Kia, topping up the Niro EV’s 64.8kWh lithium-ion polymer battery from 10-80 per cent takes just 43 minutes with a suitable DC rapid charger.
