This is Skoda’s eleventh year as the official partner and official vehicle supplier of the Tour de France; the world’s third largest sporting event.
The core of Skoda’s activities at the world’s premier cycling event is the provision of 250 Skoda vehicles to support Le Tour. Collectively this fleet will drive approximately 2.8 million kilometres during their service in Le Tour. Incredibly since 2004, the Skoda support fleet has covered almost 28 million kilometres without recording a single break down.
Saturday the 5th July also saw the 2014 Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle where Skoda was the official vehicle supplier. The local event is the largest one day charity fundraising event in Munster and attracts 9,500 cyclists annually. Skoda’s commitment to local cycling also includes partnerships with the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle, Tour de Conamara and the seven event Skoda Cycle series.
Commenting, Raymond Leddy, Head of Marketing & Product, Skoda Ireland said: “Skoda has long standing connections with cycling, the company itself originated over 100-years ago when Skoda first started manufacturing bicycles. Our strong presence at the most famous cycling race in the world strengthens the image and long term reputation of the brand. At home here in Ireland nearly 14,000 people will take part in Skoda supported events”
He added “We like to bring a unique experience to cyclists at these events and for example, last weekend we had a physio available for cyclists after they complete the Ring of Kerry and we also had bike mechanics available on the Friday evening to look at participant’s bikes.”
With the popularity of cycling at all time highs, Skoda has expanded their bike range to 14 bicycles, including 7 mountain bikes, 2 racing bikes, 3 junior bikes, one trekking bike and even an electric bike.
