With there seemingly being no let-up in the number of new SUVs being introduced to the market, it’s refreshing to see that the art of the supermini is still in practice. It didn’t take long once behind the wheel of the new Opel Corsa to see that the ‘Blitz’ brand has strung together another hit. The Corsa has been a best-seller across Europe for more than 40 years, and the latest model is now available in Ireland from €23,995.
Tested was the top ‘GS’ trim powered by a 1.2 100hp mild-hybrid petrol engine coupled with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, which when fully-spec’d, totalled €30,995 plus delivery. It’s a delight to drive however, and is very efficient on juice with a full tank returning over 800km. Annual road tax is €190. Rear leg room is adequate for its size while boot capacity is 309-litres.
The GS trim starts from €26,595 and is also available with a 1.2 75hp petrol five-speed manual powertrain, and comes as standard with a 10 inch colour touchscreen supporting wireless Apple Car Play / Android Auto, 17 inch alloy wheels, LED front fog lights, heated steering wheel, heated front seats, front centre armrest with storage and two cup holders, high gloss black b-pillars, black painted roof, and 180 degree panoramic rear view camera.
There are two other trim levels available in Ireland that will lower the purchase price: the entry-level ‘SC’ and middle ‘Elegance’. The former boasts the new Opel Vizor front face and is matched to a 1.2 75hp petrol five-speed manual powertrain. It comes as standard with rear parking sensors, active lane assist, cruise control with speed limiter, forward collision alert, enhanced traffic sign recognition, driver attention alert, tyre deflation detection, hill start assist, manual air conditioning, DAB radio, 12V power outlet, electric front and rear windows, and rain-sensing windscreen wipers.
The middle ‘Elegance’ trim is priced from €25,295 plus delivery, and it gains a 10 inch colour touchscreen with HD graphics, Apple Car Play and Android Auto, seven inch driver information cluster, front console USB connection, front and rear parking distance sensors with panoramic rearview camera, side blind spot alert with side distance alert, 16 inch alloy wheels, and power-folding mirrors, as standard.
