Audi has scrapped its model naming strategy, just two years after it was first announced. Going forward, even numbers will no longer be reserved for Audi’s fully-electric models, which instead will continue to use the e-tron moniker. TFSI will denote its combustion-powered models.
The first new model to use this nomenclature will be the combustion-engined Audi A6, which was originally set to become the A7. This means the A6 Avant TFSI for example, will be clearly differentiated from the all-electric A6 Avant e-tron.
Audi has said that no retroactive name changes are planned concerning models already on sale.
The German automaker also said this decision to abandon its model naming strategy “follows the wishes of our customers as well as feedback from our international dealers”.
